The Wilden Marsh Blog

Monthly Archives: October 2018

I let the marsh herd into the Tenant Farmer’s Field today, which is full of tall grass that has not been grazed this growing season. The Shetland cattle always rush into a field and try to find the best grass, whilst Wayne and Waynetta Galloway always start grazing at the gate and work their way methodically though the field. I think the Galloways have the most efficient grazing strategy.

I am now sure that the lack of otters on the marsh late last month was due to the River Stour water levels being low. Now that the river levels have increased significantly, there are plenty of otters about.

When the going gets tough, Wayne has a lie down – especially when the weather is warm and sunny.
