I left OtterCam in the same position on the riverbank last night. I had messed-up the small mud ramp from the river with my size 12 wellies, so I spread detritus, leaves and dried balsam stalks, from further up the bank to dilute my scent and hide footprints – it was an easy option, and a lazy option.
This morning I plugged my monitor into OtterCam and immediately saw 35 video clips had been shot overnight. This means meeces to me! Meeces had spent the night rooting through the detritus, and using-up my expensive lithium battery power. Lithium batteries are expensive, but a more reliable power source in freezing conditions.
Using bait to attract animals to a camera trap will soon attract mice, and moving detritus around will attract them also.
