The Robber Fly Dioctria baumhaueri

Dioctria baumhaueri

Dioctria baumhaueri
A robber fly is any of the predatory dipterous flies constituting the family Asilidae, which have a strong bristly body with piercing mouthparts and which prey on other insects. Also called bee killer and assassin fly.
Dioctria, including the Stripe-legged Robber fly (Dioctria baumhaueri), whose preferred prey are small ichneumonid wasps, tend to be rather delicate insects.
Looking good in between heists.
Not a fellow I would like to meet on a dark night. Great shot.
Thanks Tom. It has a reputation for excessive aggression.
