South Pool Sluice.

This is one of our principle marsh sluices; it’s the equivalent of a plug hole. Surface and spring waters flow along our main drainage ditch to collect at the South Pool. The sluice is downstream of the pool, where it helps adjust the south marsh water levels. A stack of sluice boards in the red-brick dam enables excess water to flow into the River Stour. Earlier this year, additional oak board weirs were installed in the upstream section of the drainage ditch, allowing us to drain the South Pool without affecting critical water levels north of the pool – a major improvement.
