Great photo 🙂 Are you sure that isn’t an “Essex”? I don’t know but the antennae club looks quite black. I am still working on my own Skippers. I wish I could get them to pose like that 🙂
No, I’m not sure it is a small skipper. If you want them to stay put, try a low hum.

Thanks Mike. I will give humming a go. I doubt that I can look more ridiculous than I already do chasing them around the field 🙂
A low, almost inaudible hum, Colin – just enough to hold their attention without frightening them.
The other thing, Colin, is to approach the butterfly with the camera to your eye – they don’t like to be looked at. They fly away if the see your eyes.
