You know aswell what it is from ???
Yes, I do know the animal the skull belonged to. What animal do you think it belonged to?
Found a skull today during a walk , is there anyway you can have a look and see what it is Mike ???
Yes. Email it to me and I will have a look.
Thank you , send it
mmm, am not sure but first thing that crossed my mind , was a fox ???
Is it a badger?
It is a badger! ✅
Fascinating! And I learned that is a badger from the reply above. 🙂
Thank you, Inga.
It has an unusual ridge on the top of the skull, I think it is only badgers that have that?
I didn’t know that.
I panicked about spreading misinformation and so looked it up! The sagittal crest is not unique to badgers, but it is particularly large because of their very powerful bite. Most people say that the larger and older the badger then the bigger the crest gets. I also learnt that their jaws fuse. Skulls are fascinating!
Fascinating! Thanks very much for this information. I wonder if the previous owner of the skull died of old age.
I expect it died just to annoy Owen Praterson and ruin his statistics 😉
When it’s time, we all gotta go.
