Himalayan Balsam.

29th Marsh 2012: This innocuous looking baby plant, measuring 2″ across and 1″ high, is Himalayan Balsam. It will grow to a height of 7 – 8 feet along the south banks of Hoo Brook and the River Stour. It won’t belong before I am fighting my way through virtual forests of them.

The marsh cattle will eventually eat this very invasive balsam species, but not until the end of the growing season.

Himalayan Balsam.
