The Wilden Marsh Blog

Monthly Archives: March 2012

31st March 2012:  The gorse blooms are very strong at the moment and they attract me as well as the bees.

31st March 2012:  These are the emerging flowers of an Oregon-grape plant.

31st March 2012:  This is the male catkin of a Goat Willow.

31st March 2012:  Cherry blossom, I think.

29th Marsh 2012: This innocuous looking baby plant, measuring 2″ across and 1″ high, is Himalayan Balsam. It will grow to a height of 7 – 8 feet along the south banks of Hoo Brook and the River Stour. It won’t belong before I am fighting my way through virtual forests of them. The marsh cattle will eventually eat this very invasive balsam species, but not until the end of the growing season.
